Collingwood Restaurant Makes Top Ten List of New Restaurants in Canada
The regional editors of WHERE magazine, Canada’s most reliable source of timely information for travellers with over 9 million readers annually, have announced the top ten new restaurants for the year 2004. WHERE editors from coast to coast visited hundreds of new establishments in each of their local regions and sampled scores of menus to come up with their selection of talented chefs and innovative restaurateurs. Collingwood’s own Monsoon Lounge & Sushi – located at 168 Hurontario St. (across from the Gayety Theatre) was one of their choices.
Here’s what Where Magazine had to say about Monsoon Lounge & Sushi:
Monsoon Lounge – Collingwood
Catering to everyone from the newbie sushi eater to the experienced and adventurous, recently-opened Monsoon Lounge & Sushi in Collingwood is worth checking out. Their original take on traditional standards like miso soup, maki rolls, nigiri sushi and hand rolls is a refreshing change. Monsoon’s signature desert, the chocolate sushi set, is better eaten than imagined. The 64-long martini menu, not to mention their martini of the week, is a good bet for those who like to try new things. Because this is a lounge, it’s no surprise that each month features themed parties, tastings and workshops.
Other restaurants on the Top 10 New Restaurant List are:
Bears Den – Calgary
Café Soleil – Canadian Rockies
Chambar – Vancouver
Fire & Water – Victoria
Lee – Toronto
Sydney’s at The Forks – Winnipeg
Onyx – Halifax
Sahara – Calgary
Wild Tangerine – Edmonton
These restaurants will be listed in the upcoming issues of Where Magazine and can currently be found at www.where.ca.
Monsoon was presented with a plaque commemorating their award by Dave Randel – Account Manager of Where Georgian Bay.
Say Monsoon’s owners, Ash Barmania and Don Kellett, “We’re thrilled with the award – not only for Monsoon, but for all of Collingwood. To have a restaurant rated top 10 in Canada operating in our town is testament to the excellence Collingwood has to offer.”
